Arizona Bankruptcy Exemptions, Whaddaya Get to Keep?
People usually want to know what property they get to keep if they file a bankruptcy case. Each state has its own rules and sometimes, it seems the list hasn’t quite changed with the times, but the rules are the rules. In Arizona for instance, you can keep a sewing machine but for all musical instruments, they cannot have a value of over $400, which seems low. Any value above the $400 for musical instruments would belong to the bankruptcy estate. To see more on what property is exempt and up to what amounts, go to the District of Arizona’s US Bankruptcy Court’s website for their general guide to Arizona Exemptions. http://www.azb.uscourts.gov.
*Remember, this is a guide and the Court recommends consulting with an attorney about what property is exempt in Arizona and how to apply the value limitations found in the Arizona statute.
